    Decentralizing Community Management

To scale a community effectively, the burden of engagement must shift from the community manager to the members. A key takeaway from London Community Week 2025 is the implementation of "Community Core Teams"—groups of dedicated volunteers who co-create and co-lead initiatives.

Working with core teams ensures that almost every activity within the community is member-led. This not only reduces the workload on central staff but also increases member retention through a sense of ownership and responsibility.

    Inventing Roles to Drive Behavior

Specific roles can be "invented" to encourage behaviors that align with the community's purpose. For example, the role of Community Curator was designed to foster a culture of resource sharing. Participants in this role are asked to simply go about their professional lives and share interesting findings, templates, or articles they encounter.

    • Engagement Roles: Reward high-value actions with titles that provide status and clear responsibilities.

    • Repurposing Value: Curated content shared by members can be tagged and repurposed by the marketing team, creating a virtuous cycle of visibility for the member and the brand.
