The Member Journey: From Discovery to Contribution
The path a new member takes from first hearing about a community to making their first contribution must be carefully choreographed. A common pitfall in community launches is an "overloaded" experience where members are met with too many calls-to-action (CTAs).
Effective onboarding should be simple and focused. Instead of pointing to multiple areas of a platform, community managers should provide a single, clear CTA. "Make a quick intro, post a gif—something simple and easy and fun," was a key recommendation for reducing friction and making members feel immediately "seen and celebrated."
Choosing Your Launch Methodology
There is no "magic button" or one-size-fits-all approach to launching, but several models can be combined depending on the community's needs:
• Soft Launch: Inviting a small handful of users to seed early content and stress-test the environment. This often forms the basis of a future super-user program.
• Official Launch: A "big bang" approach often centered around a major event to drive high-volume awareness.
