Proving Relative Value Through Cohorts
One of the most effective ways to demonstrate community impact is through cohort analysis. By comparing the behavior of community members against non-members, community managers can provide concrete evidence of the "community premium." This involves looking at whether members are more engaged, have a higher Net Promoter Score (NPS), or exhibit different purchasing behaviors than the general customer base.
"Cohort analysis... is grounded in this idea of: Are community members more engaged than people who aren’t members? Are they more valuable? Do they do different things?"
Prioritizing Member-Centric Metrics
When choosing which numbers to feature, the focus should land on member satisfaction and value derivation. While business-centric KPIs are important, metrics that reflect whether members are happy and getting what they need serve as leading indicators for long-term business health. If members aren't deriving value, the downstream business impact will eventually stall.
