I used to be a primary school teaching assistant before transitioning into community management. The pandemic hit the education sector almost as much and as bad as it did the medical one, I was under a great amount of stress and frustration and it's then that I started looking at alternative careers to pursue.
I started studying UX/UI design after work and I after a series of events I funded my very first official community, Floxies Community, an international community for women in UX/UI design and Webflow Development. After over one year of practice at Floxies I was hired as the Community Manager at NoCodeOps, where I built another community from scratch and I'm super happy to be leading today.
Breaking stereotypes and combating the occasional sense of Imposter Syndrome have been prominent challenges.
Navigating the male-dominated tech realm, facing unintentional acts of sexism, and battling societal perceptions about women in tech were obstacles I had to face.
However each challenge only fueled my determination and pushed me into creating welcoming and inclusive spaces for people.
Kindness.
Listening to people.
Paying attention to our users' needs.
Fostering and growing the community with its community members themselves.
Connecting with other community professionals.
Discord!
Consistent, value-driven content and interaction.
Hosting regular events, like our "Wonder Wednesdays" at Floxies or our "Live Community Shows" at NoCodeOps, offers members a rhythm of engagement and a sense of anticipation.
Offering a blend of learning, networking, and genuine conversation is the key.
For me, a community isn’t just a group of individuals; it's a movement.
It embodies collaboration, a sense of belonging, and the collective pursuit of growth and representation.
It's where voices unite, resonating strength and passion.
Community can start from just two people engaging in a conversation, community is where you open up to someone and you grow, together.
Begin with passion and authenticity.
Understand the needs and aspirations of your community members.
And remember, it’s a continuous journey of learning and adapting.
Each challenge is an opportunity, and each member's feedback is a stepping stone to creating a more vibrant, supportive space.
