A useful community resource report shows what the service consumes, what that effort delivers and where commitments exceed capacity. Separate spending from staff time, include work shared with other teams, and explain estimates. The purpose is to support an honest choice about service levels, responsibilities and the next resource commitment.
A community can look inexpensive while relying on favours from colleagues and evenings from its manager. A report that makes those dependencies visible gives decision makers something more useful than a single headline cost.
Define the service the report covers
Start by naming the service, its audience and the period under review. A customer discussion space, a programme of expert sessions and a maintained answer library may share a team, but they create different work. Readers need to know which activities the report includes before comparing totals.
