How often should we do this health check?

A quarterly cadence is ideal. It should be done roughly every 90 days. This frequency is often enough to catch problems before they become crises, but not so frequent that it feels like a burden. Try to align it with your chapter's natural planning cycle, perhaps at the start of each quarter as you plan your activities.

What if my chapter is 'red' in most areas?

First, do not panic. This is very common, especially for chapters that are new, have just gone through a leadership transition, or have been neglected for a while. The purpose of this tool is to provide clarity, not judgment. Acknowledging the reality is the first and most important step. The next step is to resist the urge to fix everything. Pick just one 'Red' area—the one that feels most foundational—and make that your sole focus for the next 90 days.

Should we share the results of our health check with our members?

This depends on your chapter's culture, but transparency can be incredibly powerful. You probably don't need to share the full Red/Amber/Green breakdown. However, sharing your 'one thing' for the quarter can be a great way to build buy-in. Announce it in your newsletter: 'For the next three months, our leadership team is focused on improving our welcome process for new members. If you have ideas, we'd love to hear them!'. This signals that you're listening and invites members to be part of the solution.

Our national office has its own reporting requirements. How does this fit in?

This health check is a separate, internal tool for your leadership team's benefit. It is designed for diagnosis and focus, not for compliance. Think of it as your own private strategic conversation. The insights you gain from this check-in can, however, provide valuable qualitative context for any formal reports you are required to submit. It can help you explain the 'why' behind the numbers you're reporting to national.
