Diagnose a customer training need by identifying the task, the expected result and the barrier preventing successful performance. Check access, product behaviour, guidance and working conditions before assuming a skill gap. Use an observed attempt where possible, then choose a response that addresses the barrier and review what changes.

A request for another webinar can arrive before anyone has agreed why customers are struggling. Pausing to understand the difficulty can lead to a smaller, more useful response and prevent education from inheriting problems it cannot solve.

    Describe the performance gap precisely

Start by asking what customers are trying to accomplish. A statement that people do not understand reporting is too broad to guide a response. Describe the request, the action they attempt and the result that would count as successful. This gives everyone a concrete problem to investigate.
