In a product-led growth (PLG) company, customer marketing owns the post-signup journey at scale. While the product is the primary driver of value, customer marketing builds the one-to-many programmes that guide users from activation to adoption, expansion, and advocacy, filling the gap left by traditional, high-touch customer success models.

Your PLG motion is working. Signups are flooding in. Users are poking around the free tier. But who is talking to them? Who ensures they see the value, adopt the key features, and eventually pay you?

The PLG Gap: Who Owns the Post-Signup Journey?

In traditional, sales-led SaaS, the answer is simple. A Customer Success Manager (CSM) is assigned. They run kickoff calls, hold quarterly business reviews, and manage the relationship. The customer is 'owned'. Product-led growth, by its very nature, breaks this model. As OpenView Partners defines it , PLG is an 'end user-focused growth model that relies on the product itself as the primary driver'. You cannot assign a CSM to 10,000 free users.
