Customer managers reinforce learning by giving people a suitable opportunity to use a new skill, clear expectations and useful feedback on the attempt. They do not need to become product trainers. Agree a bounded task, remove practical barriers and provide a route to specialist help when the work exceeds their knowledge.

A customer can leave training ready to try something new and return to a working week that offers no space to use it. The manager's contribution is often to make that first attempt possible and help the learner understand what happened.

Agree what the learner will apply at work

Start with one task that connects the training to an actual responsibility. The manager and learner should be able to describe what will be attempted and why it matters. A broad intention to use the product more effectively leaves too much room for different expectations about the next step.
