Customer community decision rights define who can make each important decision, who supplies evidence and when an issue must be escalated. Clear authority helps community, support, product and customer success teams act together without requiring universal agreement, while keeping customer commitments with the people responsible for delivering them.

A product request attracts thoughtful discussion, but nobody will say what happens next. Several teams care about the outcome, and each assumes another team has the final word. Defining decision rights turns that uncertainty into an accountable next step without pretending every request has an easy answer.

    Identify decisions that repeatedly stall

Start with recent examples of work that waited unnecessarily. A disputed answer, a request for a private customer group or a proposed change to response coverage can reveal different authority gaps. Describe the decision as a question that requires an answer. Avoid beginning with a diagram of departments, because reporting lines do not show how a specific decision gets made.
