Customer community capacity planning matches the work customers need with the people and time available to deliver it. Estimate incoming requests, handling effort, maintenance and specialist cover, then test whether your service commitments remain realistic during busy periods. Review the assumptions as customer needs, product complexity and team availability change.

A community can look quiet while its team is overloaded. A handful of difficult questions, an outdated knowledge collection and several internal handoffs may consume more time than a busy discussion full of simple replies. Planning from workload makes those pressures visible before customers experience the consequences.

Measure demand as work, not just activity

Start by grouping requests according to what someone must do to help. A question about finding a resource differs from an implementation problem that needs technical investigation. A report of inappropriate behaviour creates a different obligation again. Member counts and posting totals provide context, but neither tells you how much handling each request requires.
