A customer community operating model defines how your team delivers useful services, makes decisions and handles work across departments. It connects customer needs to named owners, realistic commitments and regular reviews, so a B2B community can keep helping people when demand grows, priorities change or individual staff members leave.

A customer asks a difficult implementation question. Community staff can welcome them, but only a specialist can confirm the answer, and nobody knows who has time to help. An operating model gives that request somewhere to go and makes responsibility visible before the customer has to chase.

Start with the customer work you will support

Begin with the tasks customers bring to the community. They might need to configure a workflow, compare implementation approaches, understand a release or explain a product limitation. These tasks can look similar in a discussion feed while requiring very different kinds of help. A peer can share experience; a product owner must decide whether a proposed feature belongs on the roadmap.
